Layout or design is the first thing that a recruiter encounters. It makes a strong impact on him.
Now it is entirely in your hands to make a convincing first impression by presenting your CV in
a suitable format.
To make it more professional, use simple fonts like Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri, Tahoma, or
any other official font. Usually, use 11 or 12 pt font for writing text and 14 or 16 font for
headers. Do not mess up your CV with too much writing in a small space.
Keep line spacing 1 or 1.5. Keep the formatting the same throughout the CV. Avoid adding
distracting graphics and images. It is preferred not to add your photo unless it is asked. Keep
your CV clear and readable using bullet points and different section headings.
If you need your CV in hard form, print it on pure white A4-sized paper to keep formatting the
same as shown online. Print on a single side only.
Jumping straight into details sections is not the right approach for CV making. Before mentioning
anything, express your personality by adding a solid objective. This will tell the hiring
manager why you are a perfect fit for the job and why they should hire you. It is the shortest
summary of your whole career.
Here comes the list of sections that hold a great importance in them. Pay more attention while
adding them. Letâs have a look at them
Contact Details
Recruiters need contact details to get back to you. It includes your
- home address
- email id
- personal mobile number
- residential number
- social media accounts.
Although this section seems very easy and straightforward to add, this is not like so. You
must
be very careful while mentioning your social media profiles because if they do not match
your
background, they may negatively impact the recruiter.
Besides this, double-check your contact details, as this is the only means to call you back.
Qualification
If you are a fresher or have zero to very little experience, then adding an education section
on
top of other sections will benefit you. Graduating from a prestigious institute would be the
cherry on top.
Add all the previous degrees, courses, diplomas, or other related stuff in chronological
order.
Mention the dates as well. Fortunately, the education section is not such a tricker to add.
You
can add your honors and distinctions to your course as well.
Work Experience
Work Experience is the section that helps the manager to analyze your potential. Make sure to
mention your relevant experience first. Include all your experiences with the organization's
name, your post, and critical responsibilities.
Keep in mind that adding only dates and the organization's name wonât work. Focus on the
results
you achieved as an employer working in any company. Use powerful action words like
âachieved,â
âdeveloped,â and âcreated,â etc., which add more value to your experience section.
Personal & Professional Skills
A recruiter is always focused on hiring a person with both personal and professional skills.
You
should mention your soft skills and their beneficial consequences, such as punctuality
certificates, honesty awards, and the list. You can talk about your languages, your IT
skills,
and other practical skills.
Besides this, some other skills that are related to your profession would be a plus. While
adding
your skills, keep their relevance in mind. Do not add irrelevant skills to your CV. Also,
mention the proficiency level of your skills.
Some Additional Sections
A CV may also contain some other sections that highlight your personality traits and
achievements
in your career. These sections will priotize your CV over the other candidate with the same
background.They include:
- Hobbies and interest
- Professional trainings
- Certifications
- Volunteer work
- Projects
- Internships
- Workshops or conferences attended
